What is the full form of TAN?

    • Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number is a 10 digit alphanumeric number assigned to a person who deducts tax on payments made by them. The requirement of TAN is driven by provisions of section 203A of the Income Tax Act. TAN is quoted on all TDS/TCS returns, TDS/TCS payment challans and all TDS/TCS certificates. Income Tax Department is the authority who issues TAN and application for TAN can be submitted online as well.

      The TAN number consits of 10 characters, first four of which are letters, next 5 numerals and last character is a letter.
