what is the full form of ddt?

The full form of DDT is DichloroDiphenylTrichloroethane. It is a very common insecticide but has been banned in most of the European nations and western nations. It is colorless and tasteless and has very slight odor. Almost all the countries have stopped the production of DDT except for India. It is a very powerful chemical and very effective in curbing the menace of mosquitoes and other parasites. The problem is that it does not dissolve very easily and remain in the system even years after its use. So along with the parasites it becomes very harmful for other animals and humans as well. It survives the food chain and effects every one involved in that food chain. It was used widespread across the world in 1950s and 1960s but slowly scientists realized its ill effect and subsequently its usage has been stopped.
The reasons for its popularity was its high effectiveness combined with its cheap rate. Most of the alternatives proposed for DDT are more expensive compared to DDT.
