    • Common Proficiency Test also known as CPT or CA-PT is the examination for pursuing the Chartered Accountancy Course. It is the first level of examination that a candidate has to clear. The eligibility criteria to appear in the examination is 12th pass. Although one can register for the examination if he has cleared class 10th. Over the years the selection criteria for Chartered Accountant have undergone numerous changes. Initially CPT was not compulsory for everyone willing to become a CA. Subsequent revisions have seen CPT becoming compulsory for Chartered Accountancy.

      As of 2014, the examination consists of objective type of questions. To appear for the examination a student has to register with Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or ICAI.

      The eligibility criteria mentions that a student must be 12th pass from recognized board or institute to appear for the examination. So a non-commerce student can also appear for CPT. While anyone can appear for CPT but the subjects that are needed to be studied for CPT are more aligned with Commerce course. The subjects that are needed to be studied are: Accountancy, Merchant law, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude.
