    • Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome is a disease of the human immune system caused by infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV virus attacks T-cells of the immune system ultimately weakening it. HIV is transmitted primarily via unprotected sexual intercourse (including anal and even oral sex), contaminated blood transfusions, hypodermic needles, and from mother to child during pregnancy, delivery, or breastfeeding.Some bodily fluids, such as saliva and tears, do not transmit HIV.
      Prevention of HIV infection is best alternative available to mankind as of now as no permanent cure has been identified for AIDS. A person suffering from AIDS will initially experience a brief period of influenza like illness. Subsequently owing to his weak immune system he will be prone to infections and tumors.
      Various NGOs, government organizations and world body are working towards eradication of AIDS and to remove the social stigma that is attached with the disease.

AIDS is a highly communicable disease and some of the most common ways by which AIDS can transmit from one person to other are:
1. Injection of infected blood from one person to other
2. Using used injection syringe from an infected person to other
3. Having unprotected intercourse
4. From a mother’s womb to her child
5. Doing drugs also exposes a person to the risk of AIDS

Some of the common precautions to take so that AIDS is not transmitted are:
1. Having safe sex (using protection)
2. Not dabbling with sex with too many persons
3. Taking care to not use a pre-used syringe or injection – using a new injection
4. Take care of any other STDs or STIs one may have
5. Circumcision also helps prevent AIDS
