    • Anno Domini is a Medieval Latin term and it means “In the year of the Lord”. It is used to denote the number of years in Julian and Georgian calendars. In the AD year numbering system it starts from AD 1 and comes immediately after the year BC 1. There is no year “0” in between these two year. If we have to use the AD term for a year then we can use it as in the following example: Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in the year 1948 AD.

AD is sometimes wrongly defined at After Death. As BC refers to Before Christ so people confuse AD with his death. But the truth is AD starts as soon as Christ was born and the full form of AD is Anno Domini.

Some of the important dates in AD are:

1973 AD- Sachin Tendulkar is born

1983 AD – Indian wins its first cricket world cup

1989 AD- Sachin Tendulkar makes his test debut for India

2011 AD- India wins ICC cricket World Cup for the second time

2012 AD- Sachin Tendulkar plays his last One day International for India

2013 AD- Sachin Tendulkar plays his last test match for India
